RADIOLOGY SERVICES INCLUDE:

MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a technique that uses a magnetic field and radio frequency, rather than radiation to create detailed images of the body.

MRI is well suited for obtaining pictures of soft tissues, including the brain, the heart, spinal cord, muscles, tendons, and joints. One of the main features of MRI is its ability to differentiate between tissues that are very similar in density, such as the musculoskeletal system (muscles, tendons, cartilage) or the gray and white matter of the brain. MRI has more recently been used as a complement to Mammography to evaluate diseases of the breast.

Our state-of-the-art equipment includes Hitachi Echelon 1.5 Tesla MRI.

CT Scan - Computed Axial Tomography
Computed Axial Tomography, or a "CT or CAT scan" offers us a quick and painless way to image many different types of structures within the body including bone, soft tissue and internal organs.

CT is especially useful at pinpointing lesions or tumors, revealing information about their location, size, and extent. Because of its short scan times, CT exams are also good for imaging areas that are prone to movement, such as the chest and liver.

Our state-of-the-art equipment includes 100003 Brilliance CT 16 Slice and 100010 Brilliance 1UPgrade Computer Tomography.

Breast Imaging
Mammography uses a specially designed x-ray machine specifically for evaluating the breast. Mammography can often show changes in the breast long before symptoms arise.

The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and over undergo a screening mammogram once a year. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, mammography can find 85%-90% of breast cancers in women over the age of 50, and can find them up to two years before a lump would otherwise be noticed./p>

Screening mammography is performed on women who have no complaints or symptoms of breast problems. Diagnostic mammography is usually performed when women find a lump during a self-exam, or are experiencing other problems. Today, MRI and Ultrasound are also used as a complement to mammography.

Ultra Sound
Ultrasound, also known as sonography, uses sound waves to create images of the internal organs and tissues.

Ultrasound can be used to image most soft-tissue organs, such as the pelvic and reproductive organs, kidneys, pancreas, and liver.

Ultrasound is most commonly used in obstetrics to image the fetus and monitor its progress throughout pregnancy.

Ultrasound is also routinely used for a variety of reasons, such as detecting gallstones, abnormalities of the liver, spleen and kidneys.
It can also identify aneurysms, or enlargements, of the blood vessels in the abdominal organs, the structures of the heart, and the narrowing of the arteries that lead to the lower extremities. Doppler ultrasound imaging is a technique, which can measure the movement of blood through veins and arteries. Today, ultrasound is also effectively being used in conjunction with mammography to help differentiate between different types of abnormalities.

Nuclear Medicine
Unlike most radiology technologies, which provide images of the anatomy, Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) can visualize and study the physiology, or the way the body functions.

Nuclear Medicine uses a radiopharmaceutical to identify the biochemistry of internal organs. When injected into the body, the signals from these radioactive tracers are measured by a scanner to create images of tissue function. Nuclear Medicine is most useful in evaluating the function of the Lungs, Liver, Spleen and Gall bladder.
The modality is also used to evaluate metabolic activity in the bones, which may indicate the presence of tumors or fractures.

Diagnostic
Diagnostic or conventional X-rays are the most common type of imaging procedures performed. X-rays are an easy and efficient way for doctors to look at the body´s internal structures.

The pictures reveal different parts of the body in shades of gray based on the ability of the x-ray to penetrate different structures.
Contrast agents may be administered to help enhance structures such as the kidneys and gastro intestinal tract.

X-rays can be used for a wide range of applications including imaging of the bones, lungs, heart and abdominal organs.
